The chiropractic techniques we use at CoU
Our Chiropractors are trained in a variety of chiropractic techniques so that we can tailor each adjustment to you, your body, your goals and your preferences. Here is a little bit about some of the specific techniques that we may use during your care:
ABC
Advanced Biostructural Correction™ (ABC) is a full-body, manual method of adjusting the spine. We look at the structure and function of all aspects of the body- from the top of the head, to the tips of the toes – taking a lot of notice of your upright breathing posture.
The importance of posture should not be underestimated. “Observation of the striking influence of postural mechanics on function and symptomatology have led to our hypothesis that posture affects and moderates every physiologic function from breathing to normal hormonal production. Spinal pain, headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse, and lung capacity are among the functions most easily influenced by posture.” –American Journal of Pain Management 1994, 4: 36-39
Diversified
This is a widely used type of manual chiropractic adjustment. This technique is the most commonly used of all chiropractic techniques and is the one probably most familiar to you. The Diversified adjustment entails a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust.
Activator
The Activator Method chiropractic technique uses a spring-loaded, hand-held mechanical instrument called the Activator adjusting instrument. This instrument allows chiropractors to provide a quick, low-force impulse at specific points.
Drop Piece
The drop piece table is a specialist function of some of our chiropractic tables. It allows parts of the table to be raised and is designed to drop away as the chiropractor performs their adjustment. This simple but very effective mechanism allows our doctors to perform a light adjustment in a very controlled way.
SOT
This is a specific chiropractic technique/assessment system that uses wedge-shaped blocks, usually placed under the pelvis, to address structural shifts throughout the entire body through a low force, slow pressure type of adjustment.
Our Chiropractors will use one (or a combination) of these techniques when they adjust you. At times they will draw on other techniques, although these are the techniques most commonly used in our practice. Deciding which technique to use for your care will depend on what your body requires at the time and will always be in consultation with you and aligned with your personal Chiropractic aims/goals and preferences.
We always adapt our techniques for babies, children, pregnancy, injuries, mobility challenges and for a whole range of other reasons – it really comes down to who is in front of us and their individual needs.
If ever you have any questions about the techniques we use, what we are looking for and what we are finding, we’d be happy to answer them. Just ask us at your next adjustment!
